Inside the cottage Mr. Mouse!

The bright sun was breaking through the horizon
painting the sky in oranges and pinks when Mr. Mouse
stepped out of his little cave opening. He stretched
his little arms and yawned his mouth open before he
shut it closed with a snap.
He had forgotten today he would go inside the cottage
to retrieve the Magic Book. The farm animals had
agreed he was small enough to go inside unnoticed by
Mrs. Copperpot. He was to seek Mr.Cat's help if he
wanted to succeed in his mission. Unfortunatetly
Mr.Cat and Mr. Mouse were not the friendly sort at
all.
He pondered his misfortune as he made his way to the
corn meal bowl in the yard. If he was to embark on a
dangerous mission he needed all the strength he could
get.

It was noon before everyone was ready to take their
place on the courtyard. Mr.Dog was giving the last
minute instructions as he walked between the animals.
Mr. Mouse heard his name and he stood at attention.

"Mr.Mouse, you must climb onto Mr.Owl's back and await
my signal. When I wag my tail, Mr.Owl,you fly near
the window and drop Mr.Mouse as close to it as
possible. Then Mr.Mouse you seek Mr.Cat and ask him
to help you find the book." this he said wagging his
tail "You get the book to the front door and give it
to Mr.Goat."

"MEAH,MEAH.Where I am supposed to take the book?" said
the goat nervously

"Take it deep into the forest, pass the Rock of all
Colors" Mr. dog whispered so low everyone gathered
closer."There you must whisper this magical words:

"A drop of rain, a sliver of blue
A twist of green, a sliver of yew,
the Faerie of the Woods I'm calling to,
The Magical Book I bring for you."

"Now" continued Mr.Dog "Make sure no one is following
you for there are many who want to keep this book not
knowing the danger it brings." He sighed " I wish good
luck to everyone. Now please gather the children to
safety and take your places."

At this ,all hell broke loose in the yard as the
little birds, doggies , kittens and small farm animals
scattered to the barn. Looking around to make sure
everything was in order, Mr.Dog signaled to Mrs.Hen.

Mrs.Hen ran over to the big water barrel and stood
peering inside. She looked around at everyone and
hoped for the best, since now her life also depended
on it. The water barrel was almost full and if she
didn't want to drown she hoped Mr.Dog would get the
Missus attention on time. With that thought she put
her wings to her beak and jumped in with a flurry
of feathers. Splash!.

Right away the dog started barking. The horses baying.
The pigs snorting and everyone being as loud as they
could, trying to get their mistress outside.

"Holy smokes! What on earth is all the raucous?" said
Mrs. Copperpot as she ran outside her hands gripping
her apron. She was baking something because she had
white powder all over.

"What in the world?" she stood mouth agape staring
around as she watched her animals all running as if
they fled wild bees all around. "Animals! Stop at
once!" she clapped her hands"What is the matter with
you? Mrs.Hen, what are you doing in the water barrel?
Oh,dear. Let's see honey, don't fret."

Just then Mr.Owl flew overhead and dropped Mr.Mouse
barely inside the window where he landed on a seat
cushion. He managed to hold on to the fringe and drop
to the floor with a flip. He turned to take in he
surroundings in the now dim light. He knew Mr.Cat
wouldn't be too far and he needed to be fully alert.
Everyone's life were stakes and they now depended on
him.

The hair on the back of his hairy neck stood on ends
as he turned to face a mouthful of teeth smiling
ferociously at him.

"Hello, Mr.Cat. I've come to seek your help." He held
his breath and waited for the worst.
