Sugar and Blumar

"If he doesn't apologize, I'm not going to either."

"Why do I have to apologize? He started it!"

Dandelion stuckout his tongue at Blumar. He in return
squirted water at Dandelion and dived in the choppy
water.

"People! We must stop this foolishness and get on the
river." said Mr. Owl bracing against the rising winds.

"Uh, Mr.Owl?" said Mr.Goat

"We don't have time to stand around fighting when
dangers lurks about."

Mr.Goat walked backwards into Sugar Plum. Following
his horrified gaze she flew to Mr.Owl and pulled on
his ruffled feathers.

"What is it Sugar!?" he turned his eyes widening in
terror. "Folks, I'm afraid if we don't flee we are
much to late."

From the thundering skies lightning illuminated the
sky to reveal a black cloud of immense proportions.
The cries of hundreds of bats could be heard in the
distance.

Blumar's eyes grew misty for he knew now how serious
the situation was. He turned and silently summoned his
fellow mermaids to bring the water craft forward.

Froth covered the surface as an iridescent head
emerged shaped just like a sea horse. The magnificent
creature whinnied a salutation and floated closer to
the sandy river bank. The back was flat and it's
scales rippled open to reveal deep crevices that
would carry the animals up the current.

"Come on everyone!.Cyclos is ready!" Blumar called.

The friends hurried atop the sea horse and held tight
to the scales.

"I trust you haven't forgotten an old friend?" asked
Blumar "You think you can manage to steer him?"

"Of course I remember Cyclos!.Hold on tight everyone.
Here we go!" cried Dandelion

The seahorse glided through the magical waters at
fast speed, bouncing off the waves and crashing on the
sparkling waters. Stars and flying fish made way for
the speeding friends cheering them on their way.

Suddenly the skies opened and pelting water blinded
their eyes. The winds made it hard to hold on to the
slippery scales. All heads bowed agaisnt the powerful
storm.

"Sugar! Can you shield us with a spell?" bellowed
Dandelion with the effort of keeping the horse steady.

"I can try. I need help! Mr.Owl can you hold me steady
while we float on top of the vessel!"

"We must!" saying so he gently picked Sugar in his
beak and fought the strong wind currents trying to
get higher. Just when he thought he didn't have enough
strength left he heard Sugar chanting and a ball of
light began to glow and grow from her little hands.

It began to spread until it covered the entire sea
horse. Wind nor water could penetrate it's glowing
surface. The only problem was Sugar and Mr.Owl were
outside. They were being pulled by the wind in all
directions. Sugar climbed around Mr.Owl's neck and
held tight for dear life. The warmth from his
feathers warming her agaisnt the worst of the fury.

Below Dandelion yelled " Sugar! Hold tight, honey!"
His heart plummeted as he watched her and Mr.Owl
fight the torrents. An invisible had shooked the sea
horse and he concentrated his efforts on taking the
next turn on the wild river. He heard the gasp of all
his friends but he could not risk taking a glance
when their very lives were on danger.

A loud crash through the barrier gave him relief in
knowing that they had made it through the shield.

"Sugar, Mr.Owl! Are you all right?" he asked

Silence followed. Just then they broked through the
clouds and thay floated to the deeper tranquil skies.
Stars twinkled and flashed all around them at last
he could see the Palace of the Faeries not too far
off.Cyclos would take them there without his help.

As he turned his smile froze mid-way. All were
gathered around Mr.Owl. He wept in silence staring at
his wings while everyone looked at Dandelion with
pain in their eyes.

"Where's Sugar?" he couldn't control the trembling
in his voice.

Mr.Owl stood up his sloping shoulders set in defeat.

"I'm sorry, lad. I tried to hold on to her but the
winds were too strong..." a tear slipped down his
feathery cheek as he pointed to the river below.

"Suugaaar!" he ran across the back intent on pouncing
in after her but his friends knew it would be foolish
to attempt to. So they held him down and held on as
his struggles ceased and his weeping shook them.

"Perhaps is not too late. Blumar went after her the
minute he saw her plunge into the water." said Mr.Goat

"But she was too high to survive the fall." said
Mr.Wolf.

The mermaid faeries and everyone started arguing her
chance for survival as they heard his sobs turn in to
great peals of laughter. Soon they started wondering
if perhaps their friend had finally lost it when he
said.

"Why are you worrying about. If Blumar went after
her. She's as good as safe. He'll bring her back."

He stood hands on his waist smiling broadly. He was
glowing in sunny warmth drying his tears.

"Well, how do you know?" akes Mr.Wolf

"Is very simple you see. He's in love with her."

"But." Mr.Owl never at a loss for words watched his
friend gazing at the waters below. It never ocurred
to him the reason for their feud was over love for
the same faery.
