This blog keeps me in touch with WDC. Jamesdillingham.com keeps me in touch elsewhere.

Story content
I am trying to write an alternative history for a contest and find myself learning some things along the way.

My first attempt was to tell what happened, like reporting a news event. I found this a little hollow as the people in the story had no character development.

My next attempt was to start with what things looked like after. I built in characters but there was not conflict ... just a boring 'day in the life' type story.

I need to give this some thought. I need to have characters that I care about. I need to have conflict and resolution. I have read that these are needed and now I am experiencing the need first hand. A very good lesson for me.
