| The run on guns is on. The word is that the Democrats are going to take away the guns, so gun dealers are not suffering a recession. You can't get ammo for handguns because the retailers can't keep it in stock. You can get bird shot and stuff like that at WalMart, but that's it. I know a couple of guys who went to a really big hunting and fishing store, and they were surprised at the people browsing for guns. An older couple who didn't even know how to hold it were seriously checking out an automatic. Maybe running an errand for a grandson. These are not ex-military guys who just fell in love with firearms. These are people who don't know what they're doing. I don't believe that guns are the root of all evil. It's the lifestyle, the disregard for others' safety, and the lack of reverence for human life. For instance, there are too many people in all walks of life who think it's okay to murder someone, if they don't want to be married to that person any longer. It's okay to kill, if doing so will get me more money somehow. I recall a doctor telling a reporter that a fourteen year old was in the emergency room with a bullet wound. He told her, "I didn't know it would hurt so much." ?!!!!!! He didn't know a gunshot to the body would produce pain! What are we teaching kids? If guns weren't available, some other means would be found. Some families are really into knives. Some people like devising poison plans, like they're the perfect criminal and will prove it. So many people think they are above the law. They can make their own weapons with such arrogance. The Gerber baby food scare was done by a former detective who excelled in his field; he believed that he was superior and that he could do an untraceable crime. He had no regard for the risk to anyone else, because he was above everyone else, and could make a little money to boot. What gives any human being the right to determine on his or her own that his life is worth more than anyone else's, and he can take it at will? In addition to other values that aren't taught or revered in our culture, like human life, we need to add the concepts of humility and the greater good. Getting rid of all guns will not reduce crime or make us better people. Banning guns will not improve the human heart. |
