Just a few thoughts, rants & observations have popped into my head as I go about my life
|At the risk of appearing to have only one topic of conversation in my recent blog entries, I can't let the recent Paris attacks and the aftermath go by without comment.
Firstly of course we all send our prayers and love to those involved and to the people of Paris who are feeling under attack at the moment. The shock and outpouring of solidarity mirrors that of the London attacks in 2005 and the WTC attacks in 2001 and understandably to an extent as it becomes clear that no amount of security can keep our cities safe from these murderers.
What is noticeable though is that the wall to wall media coverage and outpouring from the world, facebook profile pictures, etc was never present when Beirut was hit two days previously ...or anywhere else outside of the so called 'civilised' countries of the west. We have to understand that these things are happening worldwide ....the horror and shock we feel about Paris should perhaps lead us to have more compassion for those fleeing Syria as they go through this daily ....we should have just as much compassion and support for those who suffered following the attack in Lebanon ...or for those suffering in other parts of the world from similar attrocities.
I understand that Paris is so close to home for us westerners that it kind of jolts us somewhat so I'm not criticising people, just asking for a balance.
Sadly I know that political leaders will see more bombing as the answer to securing peace ....what hypocrisy.
Make peace not war.
