Month 3: Rules and Regulations of the Taker World
Month 3: Rules/Regulations

• What are the rules/laws in your world?
The rules in the Taker society all revolve around keeping King Hadrian in power. Mostly I’ve touched on this in the last month, but to expand is that any minor transgression is considered a major punishable offense because of Hadrian’s extreme paranoia and insane persona. Things used to be different and I’ll be elaborating in the story when my plans to put Ashe back on the throne commence. But that might actually be saved for a different novel. I’m not sure how I’m going to end this one yet. I think things need to have some openings for a future story. But I want the democracy of the past, where the King rules but there is a parliament and many advisors that help with the rule to be involved. I think the best example would be a government like France or England. I would model it after one of those countries governments.
• Who enforces the rules in your world?
In the Taker society the Enforcers are the big police like company. Unfortunately, I’ve mentioned it is corrupt in so many forms that it resembles a state of military like Syria or one of the other communists governements. I think that’s what they are. Anyway, there’s also Jon Connard who is like executioner and judge all at once. And of course as mentioned the King and his sons (not Ashe) get away with whatever they want. It’s a very screwed up political system right now.
• This is a big one: if there is magic in your world, what are the rules? What is possible and what isn't? How does the magic work? What are the limitations? What are the law type rules set in place? Are there enforcers for these rules/some sort of agency in place? Is there a class system involved, is there a heirarchy (are there rules about who can cast which types of magic)? Can different types of people cast different types of magic?
The rules for magic are tricky. In the Taker society right now, no one can shapeshift without the explicit permission of the government which pretty much means no peasants and poor or even elite. It’s left up to a select few in government and it is grossly unfair because as a Taker you have to shift, it’s part of being who you are. Your wolf half is completely linked to your human half and that makes life miserable for all Takers at this point. They shift in secret, cuz they have to but many get caught and imprisoned or killed.
Shifting is the major magic in my world although there are the Alunites that are able to heal through the power of herbs. The major magic involved there is the ability to cultivate and plant the herbs and coax the most potent healing properties out of them. It’s a skill that takes years to master and only a few have it in huge quantities, Trigger being one of them. They use meditation and visualization and people like Trigger “talk” to the plants, their magic is a green color to the minds eye. The magic has limitations, there are no instanteous healings, and scars are always left behind, but those with Trigger’s ability can force healings with very very potent herbs to be a thousand times better than they were. It depends on the seriousness of the injury or sickness, sometimes it may seem instanteous, but there are still rules for taking it easy after and scars and marks will always remain.
The Alunites have a High Healer that over sees the teaching and ruling of the Alunites power. They are considered a highly coveted race so there needs to be a lot of security in place. This is where the Taker’s used to come in. The Alunites and the Takers used to be very close races and the Takers would be guards at the Alunites temple. Its how Thorns’ mom met Thorn’s dad. The Alunites cannot bring people back from the dead, they can only heal when the body is willing and able to mend. If the person is too sick or too injured they will not make it. There’s no bringing back to life in this world.
The Enforcers for the Taker society regulate shifting as mentioned before and they are brutal in their punishment. There used to be a council that would oversee the laws of what Taker’s could do when they shifted, such as no killing and no messing around with others wives and such. But that became nonexistent during Hadrian’s reign because he allows very little shifting to take place. All this will come into play when Ashe is able to get back on the throne. Taker society is very screwed up and a lot of revamping will have to take place for the future to be a bright one.
Taker’s shift using will power and visualization. There’s no real explanation for how they are able to contort their bodies into wolves but they can only shapeshift into wolves. As far as I know that is all they’ve ever been able to do. There are no other magic involved in the other races, they have different customs and different Gods and different beliefs.
• What are the limitations that societies face?
The limitations that the societies face are pretty distinct. I’ve mentioned the class divide and also the divide between races a lot in the past. Most of this is due to the Takers society downfall, as they were the initiator in a lot of these things, such as the trade and roads and such. Now the Alunites face attacks everywhere they turn and the Takers are isolated. Most of the races now rely on themselves but that is more to be covered in the next months work.
Anything else you can think of that fits into this category.

Serenity to you and yours!
