Oui, Oui or Weee, Weee?
Oct. 3 Prompt:

Do you speak a second language? If so, what inspired you to learn it?
If not, what language are you interested in learning?

When I was in high school, I needed to take three years of a foreign language to get my Regents diploma. I decided to learn French because my family spent a month in Canada for vacation each year. I was so excited to be able to read all the labels on the packages because they were written in English and French. I thought I would have a great advantage over everyone because of all the exposure I would have. Well, that didn't work out too well. I don't remember anything that I learned in that class and I NEVER learned to 'roll' my "r's". Apparently, people in Rochester, NY speak with a 'hard a' and that makes speaking French rather problematic.

I believe that they now offer sign language in high school. I think that would be wonderful to learn because Rochester has a large deaf community. It is a beautiful language to watch, if you have ever had the opportunity.

Theoretically, I would love to learn to speak 'animal', just like Dr. Doolittle. That would make me the very best Vet Tech EVER! I would be able to find out exactly what was bothering each animal and probably fix things before they got a lot worse. In veterinary medicine, we really need to wait until the animal shows signs of an illness, which could be late in a disease. However, if the animal could tell us when it started to feel 'off' or when a pain was mild, we might be able to fix the disease before it manifested itself into something worse! Then instead of the little piggy going weee! weee! weee! all the way home I would hear "I got stung by a bee" all the way home!
