|October 6 Prompt:
Write about a memorable encounter with a stranger. Even if it is fiction
The late autumn night was dark and stormy. An electricity cut through the humid air. Lights flickered along the street, casting eerie shadows along the darkened buildings. I hurried, trying not to drop the bags of groceries i just purchased, avoiding puddles and dark alleyways. Approaching a large ominous gap between buildings, the streetlights flickered and then went completely dark. I heard footsteps behind me, so I increased my pace. The faster I walked, the closer the footsteps got, until I could feel a hot breath on the back of my neck. I dropped the bags, listening to the cans roll into the gutter, and I ran as fast as I could. Whatever was following me was still there, closing in.
I ran across the street, hoping to zigzag enough to lose the stranger, but I missed the curb and tripped, scraping my knee and breaking the heel on my shoe. Now, the stranger was upon me. I could feel his hot breath in my face. His hands were covered in fur and he smelt like wet dog. When lighting flashed, I could see his large canines, droplets of drool hanging just above my lips. He brought his face closer and then...
he licked me. It was a large puppy! I had seen him before and now he was upon me. He wore no collar and when I had him scanned, there was no microchip found. The veterinarian said he was about a year old and a very healthy pup. Being part German Shepard and part who knows what, he was a big boy and VERY protective! We have no idea how long he had been living on the streets but he was well-mannered. Now, I don't need to walk the streets alone ever again and neither will he!
