Breaking the Silence

Silence is suspended
by the far away, staccato bark
of hungry dogs.
In the time it took to type
these words, it has stopped.
The tap tap tapping
as fingers
strike the keyboard,
the subliminal buzzing hum from some
electronic appliance,
and from outside,
the soft chirp chirp of little birds,
are now the only discord
imposing on my morning quiet.
