Bloodbath
Bloodbath

Fate has tied me
up in knots,
has smothered me
and strangled me.
Held in place
by the ropes that bind
there’s no escape,
no option to scream:
“I’ve changed my mind!”
But fate has inadvertently
left me an escape clause
in the shape of
a loosely held wrist
and a pair of sharp scissors
that if I twist,
turn and contort
I might just reach.
It starts off slowly,
the clipping,
the snipping,
but as those bindings
start to fall
it won’t be long
before I reach them all
and send fate packing.
Each snip has left a wound
that runs deep
to the bone;
and the bleeding is profuse,
enough to fill up the bath
and drip through the ceiling.
Given time those wounds,
they’ll heal,
and I’ll have made good
my escape
from the ropes of fate
with a pair of
blood-drenched scissors.
