I got the fire blazing,
shooting sparks up in the sky
and then quite deliberately
I began to pull myself apart.
Memory after memory,
I cast into the flames
watching them become
by tongues of destruction.
There's more to me than memories though.
My job is not yet done
and already the flames
are quenched and sinking,
down from their high-point.
I need to feed the fire
with sticks,
with blown down branches;
get it raging and roaring so that it will
flash through my opinions,
turn them to ash
for so many times
I've been told that they're trash
and it's better to burn them away.
It's while I am extracting
the strands of emotions
that the thief strikes
in the shape of a crow.
It dives down to snatch up
the blazing branch
and with its thievery it escapes,
saving from the fierce flames
a tiny strand of me.
