Feather Moon
Feather Moon

I’ve gathered them up
by the handful -
feathers shed
unwanted,
off-casts, outcasts.
The sky is dark;
the night,
it’s cool
and very clear.
Look at the moon!
It’s one of those nights
when it’s cast away
the golden glow
in preference for
the silver show.
It’s huge in the sky,
a full-moon night
where I can see
the mountains,
the craters,
as I fling those feathers way up high
to see what happens.
They are caught by a breeze
which lifts them
higher and
higher
until they start
to drift downwards -
all but one.
This solo feather
keeps on rising
going where no feather
has been before -
the moon!
Of course it’s just an illusion
when it drifted between
the moon
and me
but I’ve kept it,
this lunar spectacle -
a snapshot in my mind
of this one feather
that caressed
a silver moon.
