The last few hours have been pure pandemonium around our house. It all started last night when I absolutely could not fall asleep, and stayed up all night long chatting with a girlfriend online. Finally at 7AM, I gave up, and went to bed for a few hours to be awakened by a sickly husband. It appears as if the flu has found its way to our home and most men do not make the best patients when they are sick. This is the worst time to have commode problems. We have three and a half bathrooms in our home, and the main toilet we always use, decides now is the time to quit working, something is wrong with a valve or something in the tank… I ask myself okay what else can happen today. I should not have asked. I decided to go to Kohl’s big sale this afternoon to buy a new comforter since they were on sale for half price. And while shopping my cell phone rings, sick husband says, “the electricity is out at home, and that I need to pick up more candles, along with extra medicine, chocolate ice cream, yellow candy (butter finger candy bars) and a head of lettuce”. Reminded dear husband that there were at least 15 jars of candles throughout the place, and he says, “oh yeah, the scented one, yes dear those feel free to use them. Next stop is at the grocery store where I stood in line forever it seemed behind the other coughing and sneezing sick people in the checkout lanes while the young clerk tried her best to get everyone through. Feeling extra tired, I just want to get back home to play nurse to my patient. Outside the 50 mph wind gust were howling and it was storming rain. I arrived home drenched and soaked throughout. Walking inside the practically dark house, I was overpowered by the fragrances of a multitude of difference scents. Poor sick hubby had lit candles in almost every room it looked like a séance was about to take place without witches. After choking on the strong smells, I was fumbling in the pitch black dark with getting the groceries out of the truck. I was unable to close the garage door as we had no electricity and the winds continued to whip around me. Oh what a night this was turning into. Finally with everything calmer inside, I locate a flashlight with the hopes of using its beam to see by to remove my contacts. I have now found there is not much more challenging than attempting to hold a flashlight while digging in your eye socket with one hand in the dark, at the same time praying not to lose my contacts. Miraculously I managed to do it. I doctored sick husband up with more meds, and make sure he wasn’t running a temperature, and our poor cat Lucy was crying wanting fresh water. She is spoiled beyond words. We have a well, (instead of public water system), and without electricity the well won’t work. Lucy let me know quickly she hates bottle water… Deal with it tonight cat. Finally a short while, the power came back on, and the house was bright and TV was blaring – now sick husband can quite worrying over who’s going to win the basketball game tonight. Duke or Chapel Hill, he can watch it, and I’m off to bed, preferably in the dark. |
