I used to have a hard time letting stuff go if it was just going to be thrown in the trash. But like you, I tend to use stuff (especially clothing) until it wears out, so I've had to come to terms with the fact that I got my money's worth out of it and nobody needs a shirt with a hole in it, or a pair of shoes with no treads on them anymore.

I don't feel I've acquired much, since my wife passed. On the other hand, I've not made much of an effort to "thin the herd" either, so I think I have a fairly good picture of what you're facing. Best of luck!

Congratulations on getting a new computer! Sounds like it will definitely be a relief once you're all set up at home with your wifi so you don't have to go to the library anymore!

I have the same issue with my dentist. They really push to have their clients come in every six months, but if I ever have to reschedule, they go, "Well the next available appointment we have is four months from now."

I bought 4 pair of second-hand socks today... hopefully woolen. They are kinder to my feet.

I mostly wear second-hand clothes. A few items I've had for over 15 years.

I had a friend who could grow four-o'clocks along her foundation. Some perennials are semi-hardy. My geraniums are geriatric. I only have two left.

I have a marigold coming up from seed now but I'll be gone 5 weeks. We'll see.

Single occupant toilet rooms may be the future; but, I still remember a unisex bathroom in Turkey with individual enclosed stalls (not semi-open which is common in the US).

It's cool you got to spend time with family, even if some of that time was threatened by a decibel-level event.

I completely sympathize with your desire to declutter. I have more stuff than you can shake a stick at that didn't actually belong to just my wife or myself throughout the house.

As I understand it, the legal aspects of doing fan fiction only come into effect if you try to make money or some tangible benefit for yourself. You can write whatever for fun. Otherwise, you need to get permission.

Creativity

What do you think? Can you use up creativity?

I agree. The more you create, the more ideas you have. I can't write music, but people who do always have one more song. That creativity applies to cooking, crafts, music, and all art forms, not just writing.

Famous examples would include Clint Eastwood. Despite advanced arthritis, and a ton of work in acting, producing, and directing, he's still going strong. He can't stop finding new actors to coach, new projects to undertake, and he's almost 90. He is driven by creativity.

The same is true of inventors and scientists. It's like you inspire yourself to do one better than the last one. You never rest on your laurels. Creativity breeds creativity.
