My reason for being. My one true love. My universe. Me and my bride, Melinda McClain

Welcome to my fifth home here in Blogville. Over the past two years I have gone through some changes. Widowhood, stroke, depression....all life stages of life I experienced. This is my attempt to move on, to get over it, to.....live again.

So now I have a new blog house here in my beloved cyber-city of Blogville and the intersection of Humor and Human Interest. Come by for a visit anytime you like, friends are always welcome. We'll sit a spell and talk.

I want this new Blog home to be light and airy so the topics I write about will reflect what passes for humor for me...most of the time. I will also write about a subject near and dear to me: Animals. All sorts of animals...great and small. That is not to say I won't get serious at times, I will, but one thing I won't do (hopefully) is write about politics. As Val Kilmer said in Tombstone: "My hypocrisy only goes so far."

I make no secret that my happy place is out in the wild, watching animals and the world go by me. As much as I love living in the city, I need my escape to help ground me, to help grow, and to just remember to live. Well written as always, my friend.

I also draw my serenity and strength from nature, and from my family. Those two things together are life for me. Between the two, the continuation speaks for itself...

Nicely said, David. As a forester most of my life, the woods hold a special place in my heart as well. My desire to be in them is why I chose that profession to begin with. So I can say I honestly understand how you feel and couldn't have said it any better.

Well said, David. But, I believe our forests are all around us. Each person has a place to call his forest, a place where he can detach himself from the chaos of the world and regroup. You gotta have that place or else you'll go bonkers. Mine, well mine is a private place...I used to share it with an old black dog, but he's gone now. I just go there by myself now. Don't misunderstand me, Linda is my refuge and rock, always has been and always will be. She knows all about my place and approves.....she's got her's too.

It's easy. You just type { e:heart } without the spaces. I've memorized the emoticon "names" for several I use often.

If you go to Writing.com Tools in the left hand tool bar? You can find "WritingML: Emoticons" for a list of all the emoticons you can do this way. (There are a crapton.)

I like using them because sometimes

is all that needs to be said.
