I made it through November! I'm trying to make more of an effort to be positive. It's more complicated than I imagined. For some reason, my brain is predisposed to take one minor setback and catapult me into a downward doomsday spiral. No more! Last month was full of unhappy surprises, but I was still able to finish NaNoWriMo. Win! For example- my autistic nephew was arrested. He's 19 and lives with my mom. After he had a meltdown, she called the police. In hindsight, it was not the best idea. He had an encounter with them before when he was walking down the street muttering to himself and the officer was understanding and helpful. My mom hoped the same officer would come out, but instead it was a less-than-patient one. He promptly arrested Zachary for aggravated assault with a deadly weapon, despite my mom telling him her injury was the accidental result of a struggle. To make matters worse, the judge filed a protective order preventing Zachary from going within 500 feet of their house for 90 days. Apparently, there's also going to be a second felony charge, but I'm not sure what it could possibly be. My mom and I were granted joint custody of Zachary when he was two so he's like my own child. In fact, I was set to adopt him when my ex-husband decided the grass was greener in someone else's yard. So there wasn't much I wouldn't have done to get him out of jail. Including driving two hours, maxing out my credit cards, and agreeing to pay $200 a week for two months. The 6'2 danger to society is now curled up on my loveseat with his stuffed dog, Boscoe. This would normally be enough to open a portal to doom, but I've managed to find a glimmer of hope. How? 1) We now get to spend time together, which has been nearly impossible since moving last year. 2) It's easier for me to get Zachary help than for my mom due to her limited income and unreliable truck 3) My mom is getting a much-needed and well-deserved break 4) This shows my husband that we need to find a bigger place to accommodate my stray family members Of course, I don't really have an extra $200 a week, I'm lucky if I have an extra $50. But thankfully, I got a temporary job delivering UPS packages using my car until January and it works out to about $200 a week. The tax office opens on January 3rd, so then I'll have a steady paycheck until May. Or at least that's my plan. Even though plans rarely go as hoped, I'm confident it'll work out some way. |
