Hi, I'm Elle. I'm based in Auckland, New Zealand. I'm the mother of two young adults, the wife of an entrepreneurial gamer and the Queen of Unfinished Projects. This blog will contain poems, short stories, possibly photos and book reviews if you're lucky, and my thoughts on a variety of topics. Hope you enjoy it.

👼intuey Author Icon asked on the newsfeed for our favourite childhood and adult books. What a fun question! I've enjoyed seeing the range of answers that people have shared. I thought I'd write mine up in my blog, because it's been too long since I did a blog post, and also, how can one restrict oneself to just a short answer on such a question??

Favourite childhood books
As a child, I'd read anything. I was a voracious reader and there just weren't enough books available to be choosy. I lived in a rural area with no public library, so the library at my school was the only access I had to books aside from the ones we had at home.

I remember reading Mr Men and Little Miss books and Little Golden Books like The Poky Little Puppy and The Little Red Caboose, then later books by Margaret Mahy, Enid Blyton, Judy Blume and Roald Dahl, but at primary school level I didn’t have a favourite genre, author or book. There was a limited supply of books, so I read every book I could get my hands on.

I guess, if I had to choose, I might choose the Faraway Tree series by Enid Blyton.

My son especially loved Hairy Maclary by Lynley Dodd, which is SUCH a great children's book. I have gifted that book/series to so many children over the years. If I'm just being asked for recommendations, rather than my personal favourites when I was a kid, it'd be Hairy Maclary. It was published in 1983, so it's possible I did read it as a child, but I don't remember it. I just remember reading it with Jayden and then with my daughter Caitlin. And with my tiny cousin Olivia, and with my nephew and niece... Such a good series. And I think it's on Youtube now!

Favourite adult books
As a teenager, I loved Anne McCaffrey's books, especially the Talent series, but also the BrainShip series.

As an adult, my favourites have changed over time, but the first series to attain favourite status as an 'adult' was the Earth's Children series by Jean M Auel.

For a long time, my favourite adult book was Morganna by Jackie Ivie (although it was originally released as Lady of the Knight). I have had several physical copies of this book over the years.

Then it was A Restored Man by Jaime Reese. I read the book and listened to the audio book so many times.

At the moment it's probably Static by L A Witt. I just keep coming back to it. Such a clever book.

These are some other fantastic reads that are on my favourites list:

*BurstGr* Big, Bad Wolf series by Charlie Adhara
*BurstY* The World As He Sees It by A M Arthur
*BurstB* The Kingmaker Chronicles by Amanda Bouchet
*BurstBL* Let It Go by Mercy Celeste
*BurstBR* The Urban Soul series by Garrett Leigh
*BurstG* Captive Prince trilogy by C S Pacat
*BurstO* All for the Game series by Nora Sakavic
*BurstP* The GuildHunter series by Nalini Singh
*BurstR* The Healer series by Maria V Snyder
