Prompt: “Time you enjoy wasting is not wasted time.” ~ Marthe Troly-Curtin ~ "Blog City ~ Every Blogger's Paradise"  I actually love this quote. For a long, long time I felt guilty about 'wasted time'. Not that it stopped me from wasting it, you understand, but I felt guilty about it. I recently watched Kerry Godliman doing stand up comedy at the Apollo, and she did a spiel about adult colouring books. Like, at what time did anyone ever feel that the housework, the parenting, the state of the environment and world peace were sufficiently under control enough that you had time to colour in? [Embed For Use By Upgraded+] But while she was pretty funny, I disagree with Kerry and instead I agree with Marthe Troly-Curtin - no time is wasted if you enjoyed wasting it. It's okay to have fun It's okay to relax and have some downtime It's okay to be selfish every once in a while But this is something I have only learned in my forties. How sad is that? I guess I could have learned it in my 70s and that would have been even sadder. #silverlinings My favourite ways to waste time:  Reading Walking Playing games on my phone (mostly Zen Match but sometimes others) Painting (I have just discovered paint by numbers, and I am surprised how much I enjoy it!) Working on one of my many projects Colouring in (I have a beautiful adult colouring in book by a NZ artist)Of course, I spend far too much time lost down rabbit holes on the internet, and to me, that really is wasted time. And I don't mention shopping and window shopping and making lists of things I want to buy from shops.  |
