** Images For Use By Upgraded+ Only ** Hi, I'm Elle. I'm based in Auckland, New Zealand. I'm the mother of two young adults, the wife of an entrepreneurial gamer and the Queen of Unfinished Projects. This blog will contain poems, short stories, possibly photos and book reviews if you're lucky, and my thoughts on a variety of topics. Hope you enjoy it. |
Prompt: Is there a single person who has made a big impression in your life? When I was younger, my parents probably made the biggest impact. I was a Daddy's girl, and while I thought my mother was the best mother in the world (and indeed, I used to feel bad for my friends because they didn't have her as their mother!), my dad was probably the biggest influence on me for a long time. I still see a lot of things in my life that started out as an influence from him that have since been warped into something uniquely my own. When I was a teenager, the biggest influence on me was probably Chelsea. She influenced me both positively and negatively. In some ways I made conscious and subconscious choices to be as different from her as it was possible to be, and in other ways I mimicked her and wanted to be more like her. I do still see her influence in my creative hobbies particularly. I met Steve when I was 18 or 19, and we have been a couple since February 2000. For the past 22 years, he has been the single biggest influence in my life. And since we met, we have both changed enormously. We have influenced each other and we have grown together. I can say, categorically, that I would not be the person I am now if I had spent the last 22 years without Steve. And vice versa. Steve has influenced every aspect of my life - my relationships, my parenting style, my taste in music, my diet, my beliefs, my career, my hobbies, my hairstyles, my clothing, the way I celebrate, the way I talk, my goals in life, and more. He probably wishes he'd been a bigger influence on my housework skills, but alas, you can't have everything! ![]() My mother and my kids have been big influences on me too, and then there are loads of people who have been smaller influences, even down to people I've worked for or with. But I think my answer has to be Steve. |
