So playing the trombone wasn't getting me in enough trouble?

I miss the days of the pilot light. I've survived a few nasty storms without undo suffering because of stoves that used pilot lights.

I learned all about pilot lights when we moved into our current place (a new construction townhouse) several years ago and we had an unseasonable cold spell... only for us — and all our neighbors — to realize the builder never lit the pilot lights on any of the heaters. Which they placed in the attic/crawlspaces above the third floors of all our units, which all had 12-foot tall ceilings.

Not to mention if the power goes out and you want to use the gas stove, you need to light it manually. Which is never scary at all, you know, letting gas out and bringing a flame to it.

I had trouble turning Gemini off on my phone. My phone wouldn't let me google how to turn it off. Just flat out refused to show me the results. I went to my computer and no problem. I am pretty sure Gemini was trying to stop me.

Have you considered they're triplets? You may not have only electronic overlord, but a family of overladies. Speaking as one of four daughters, sisters are a force to be reckoned with. Have you tried complimenting them? They will still be running your life, but might like you better. Be wary of "Which one of us do you like best?" questions. There is no way to win at those.

I recently read of a place that hadn't had this much snow since 1978. All i could think of was The Blizzard of '78. It put the quantity of snow in perspective. That was the storm that cancelled school, our street did not get plowed out for four days, and when the plow did arrive, we had to point out the big snowbank that had a sedan under it. Fun times.

Our kitchen Alexa seems to go through mood swings. I also caught her listening in a few times—green circling light—without being summoned.

My wife thinks our house may be haunted; things get misplaced, food vanishes, we hear noises with no explanation, etc., but I think it's just Alexa.

Pilot Lights

No, not talking about flashlights specially designed for pilots.

In the olden times, gas stoves came with something called a pilot light. It was two tiny flames, one in the oven and the other on top of the stove, that were always lit. That's how your burner or oven lit when you turned on the gas. They have been replaced by electronic starters. An improvement, maybe? The flame pilot light used gas, and before safety measures, if it blew out, it could fill a house with gas.

But they were useful for many other things besides lighting the oven. The pilot light provided a gentle, low heat, which was useful when you didn't want to cook but still needed a little heat.

Need to dry some freshly picked herbs? Spread them on a tray, pop them in the oven with the pilot light on, and stir them around until they're the way you want them.

Making bread, and wanting a warm place for the dough to rise? It's right there in the gentle heat provided by the pilot light.

Washed some pans or utensils (metal) and want to dry them well? Right into that toasty oven?

You can dry fruit, make jerky, and accomplish anything that requires steady, low heat.

I miss that pilot light.
