Great self-introspection!
Yet, I don't think you failed at that job, at all. You gave it your all and your time. Sometimes, we beat ourselves on others' mistakes. I think the mistake was with the management and not you.
Then, we all wish we were better at one thing or another, be it parents, children, jobs, school, you name it. This is because we have such high expectations from ourselves. I think we'd all be better off, if we remembered we are also human and can be needy, at least, from time to time.
Lyn's a Witchy Woman I wish wish wish we could focus on cult behaviors and the importance of thinking for ourselves and questioning things. I see so much of the opposite and it's sad considering how easy it is to fact check things.
I think having that book used in schools should be mandatory. I think talking about Charles Manson and the Family would be important to talk about, because it's so complex. Good on your school for talking about it!
I agree with you about today's media coverage being too much. I do prefer the media coverage we used to have when they took pride in their work, it was factual without every gory detail. I don't need to see or read that.
In my senior English class, we read Helter Skelter: The True Story of The Manson Murders (1974) book by Vincent Bugliosi and Curt Gentry. Today it would be banned but back then we discussed cults and how important it is to think for ourselves, to question things and racism. We actually spent a quarter on the book. It made an impression on me that I've never forgotten.
Wordsmitty ✍️ Oh that's great! I assumed, from what I read, that I'd have to be at least loosely familiar with the radio show. My dad used to listen to the radio all the time, but I don't think my dad listened to PBS radio. Would've been interesting to have experienced.
We used to listen to "A Prairie Home Companion" on PBS radio every week. Had good music and excellent storytelling. Obviously, radio is just a step up from reading stories. You really have to listen to some shows to understand the book. I think we all would like to be able to make up stories that are interesting and entertaining.
Thanks for being born when his book was a best seller so that this brought back some great memories.
