This man-made wind cools
but is lacking in style.
It’s an unrelenting roar
unaccompanied by rustling leaves.
It never swirls around flirtatiously
before rushing up to meet you
and caress your cheek.
It plays no concert in the trees
but drowns out the music of the night
with its boorish droning.
It simply but steadily blows -
humming at a decibel sufficient
to lure the mind away from distractions,
moving enough air to allow sleep
but still, I am no fan.
