Prompt: Do you believe music affects your mood? Does it increase your stress or does it reduce your stress? I think music in itself is healing. It’s an explosive expression of humanity. It’s something we are all touched by. no matter what culture we’re from, everyone loves music. - Billy Joel My mom used to say that she was blessed to be given a family of artists and musicians. Dad played the guitar when I was little. My sister and I started learning guitar in our early teens (inspired by Brian Littrell of the Backstreet Boys). Later I helped my youngest brother learned how to play the guitar, and he just took off with it and plays so much better than I do. Both of my brothers also learned piano. We love musicals. We love listening to music. After mom died, I found I couldn’t stand silence, and needed either the television or music playing all the time. In elementary school, I needed a cassette tape of an album with a blend of music and whale song to help keep me calm and focused during those awful state exams. If I’m working on a novel, I like to listen to instrumental music rather than music with lyrics to help me focus. I know other writers like to have a whole mix of songs with lyrics and instrumentals, but music with lyrics distracts me and I’ll focus more on the song instead of on my writing. So I say Thank you for the music, the songs I’m singing Thanks for all the joy they’re bringing Who can live without it? I ask in all honesty What would life be? Without a song or a dance, what are we? So I say thank you for the music For giving it to me - “Thank You For The Music”, ABBA |
