"Come on in you two. This is both of your interviews for Guardian Assistant," Laquar announced from her office. L'amour and Ashley came in and sat down. They each summoned their starfish as requested. By now the starfish were starting to grow legs, arms, body, and wings. The wings were rapidly growing huge as they leveled. Pearl, Diamond, Obsidian, and Sapphire waited fpatiently to be examined. Laquar nodded approvingly as she examined them. There was no bruise to be found. Smiling, she stood up. "Well done raising your starfish. Now, they grow up to be dragons and the mightiest of them all that is. They chose you. This interview is about how you treat them and your qualifications for this job as Guardian Assistant. I know this is the beginning. You will need to change your names again and grow used to changing your names throughout the years. Food goes extinct and new foods come but water remains the same. There will always be water. Here at the castle there is a secret. This castle is over three million years old and withstood the times of trouble. Your goal is to protect the world from danger. There is Old Skull to face. I am weaker than him. However, if you train well, you could reach your potential and help me face him along with others. There are Guardians out there stronger than him. Your goals is to weaken his powers. They should not reach unlimited or none of us can face him. Is that clear?" Laquar began. "Yes," L'amour and Ashley said at the same time. "Your new names shall be Ash and Rose. You two will work together to rescue trapped people. Some people you rescue will be under his influence. Your creatures are strong and happy. That should be the case at all times. You will also be researching. For every effect there is a counter effect. This means magic can be undone and the people will go back to normal. He will lose powers that way. Are you ready to face this task?" "Yes." "Then you are hired. You pass the qualifications to be Guardian Assistant. Congrats!" L'amour and Ashley stepped out of the office grinning. They had passed the interview. What was next was a different case. Studying and rescuing people as well as continuing their journey to become stronger. Word Count: 394 Activity: "The Bradbury" ![]() |
L'Amour and Ashley looked at each other and smiled, wearing their graduation cap and gown proudly. They were both student of the year for their graduation. While Ja'mour seemed calm, cool, and collected, Ashley was as nervous as could be. She did plan on speaking in front of the audience after all and worried her speech might not go well. Secretly, she snuck out her starfish. They always had advice and could mimic her voice. In case she forgot, they could recite the speech for her and they didn't seem nervous about it at all. The feeling she felt when she touched them always relaxed her. These starfish were recordings of her best speech made yet possible when she was alone. Only they were alive and real. "In an hour our ceremony will start. We need to get to the front of the line right now. We're suppose to be in first. After all, we are the students of the year. It was a tie and we were both in the same grade. I'm all for my speech and I brought my starfish with me. I love how they are just cuddling up to me. They've grown bigger. Did you make your speech revolving around a starfish just for an excuse to bring your starfish in?" L'Amour asked first as they headed to the front of the line. "Yes I did. And we practiced together to make sure our speeches were wildly different too. I'm nervous by the way. There must be a whole bunch of people coming in to watch us. Don't forget Shannon the saxophone leader," Ashley huffed as she followed closely behind. "We are allowed to bring props with us to the speech. Male, female, it doesn't matter which. They both look the same. We both completed our first round and I changed my name to something more fancy. But want to make it fancier. What do you suggest?" "How about Quakeliso? I can change mine to Quakelisa. There is something special about this name I made up, even if we aren't lonely." "True, we are in this together. Old Skull would get a piece of my mind if he wasn't so powerful in an ugly way. We escaped him once. We know where we encountered him. We could search for clues to his weakness and see if we could raise enough creatures that, even if we're low leveled, we could defeat him. It will be tough. This calls for hardcore mode." "Yes. Okay, shh, the line is moving now. We must be quiet." They walked onto the stage and sat down while the others went to their spots on the floor. When it was L'Amour's turn he stood up and began his speech. The way he held his speech was so focused and casual that she forgot her speech. Heart pounding, her ears went red when he was done and it was her turn to give a speech. Slowly, she came to the mic. Then she looked down at her starfish. When she opened her mouth her starfish took over and started the speech. Then she began to remember all the words as she lip synced and started taking over. When she was done the crowd cheered. It seemed to be her best speech yet. But she knew her secret. The starfish had helped her and matched her lips perfectly well. Then she bowed and gave thanks before going back to her seat, holding her graduate degree. Her work was done. Then, when everyone was done, they went off the stage and outside. Their guardians were waiting for them with balloons. The next step was to become an assistant. Word Count: 613 Activity: "The Bradbury" ![]() |
He smiled. Then turned to the empty graves out there in the cemetery. Then he pulled out a small flag from his backpack. One down, 999 more to go. Then, sober, he placed down that flag. What did these people have in common? They served the country. He was proud to be wearing his military outfit that he had worn serving others for so many years. The outfit still fitted him. There was no question about that. He gained weight and lost weight and still was able to keep it. Then he moved to the next grave and put a flag down on it. 998 more to go. He had enough flags to go through the cemetery. Then he moved forward and came across an important person in his life. His old boss. He cherished his old boss. "When will I get to see you again, dragon lover?" he wondered out loud. "When your time comes. Cheer up and stride forward. We've made a difference in the world serving our country," a voice could be heard in response. It sounded as if it was coming from the grave. "No matter what, I want to make a positive difference in the life of others. Even if it means just something as simple as honoring the veterans who fought in the war for our country. For the good of the people," he responded and set down a flag. "Just listen," the voice said again. He knew listening was important. He did that time and time again. Every step of the way. Somehow this phrase held a new meaning. What kind of meaning it held he wasn't sure. It was as if his old boss was still there to speak to him. Only he knew his old boss was long dead. Still, that didn't matter. What mattered to him the most was to complete his goal. 995 graves to go. He slowly continued to put flags on the graves and saluting to each one of them as he went. He was doing this for the country. Prompt: Photo of a military man putting flags on graves Word Count: 343 Contest and Activities: "The Bard's Hall Contest" ![]() ![]() ![]() |
Sammy looked forward to Shrimp Fettuccine Alfredo any time of the year. This was going to be her birthday dinner and she knew it. All made from scratch at home. She had the recipe and everything. She could smell it and taste it. She dreamed of it too. Then her brother Bill came up to her. "We're so sorry, but the birthday dinner has been cancelled. Instead, we will take you out to a movie. Something went wrong with the stove," Bill said all at once. He wasn't hiding his grin either. "Typical. The stove works just fine. But there is a movie I would like to see too. It's been two hours already. Wait, is that my parents?" Sammy didn't fall for it. Immediately she could catch the scent of the noodles in her nose and sniffed. She was glad she didn't fall for it. "Surprise! It's your favorite meal- Shrimp Fettuccine Alfredo made from scratch. We added a little bit extra seasoning to the flavor. Come, let's sit at the picnic table and get all ready to eat, shall we?" Her mother, Angie, carried the food down and got the plates, silverware, and napkin set up. "Thank you so much and my birthday is soon too. What a perfect timing! This only happens once a year but I never grow tired of the meal," Sammy exclaimed. She knew it. Two hours was worth the wait.
