First the simple thought that Since God is the same yesterday today and forever (Hebrews 13:8) that we can look at Old Testament characters without the distinction of saying they lived before Christ as Christ was the propitiation before the beginning of the World.

The life of Saul and the life of Ballam two examples from two possible sides of an argument. Now of course there are different types and times of covenant and promise but that aside what can we see from these two men. Taking Saul first (1 Samuel 28)

1. The lord had taken away the kingship
2. The Lord would not answer Saul's inquiries
3. Saul Sought to reach the Lord any way, even the forbidden that he could.

In this we see a very twisted man who would die for his sins but whom Samuel still said would be with him in Paradise.
If this was a waiting place for saints, then we could assume someday we will see king Saul in heaven. Is this indeed an example of predestined security.

Now what about Ballam (Numbers 22-25)?

1. Balaam was a prophet the fact that God spoke to him often can't be denied
2. Balaam resorted often to sorcery and was hired to curse Israel
3.Balaam is later described as one who loved the wages of wickedness

Now in Cod's dealings and specifically the Law we see that God is a God of purity and that one can't go on being divided some might argue that the prophet never knew God however he is called a prophet and not a prophet of some False God. Could he be an example of one who knew the truth but was enticed away thus showing that man can lose genuine relationship with God when he puts other things first.
