After a harrowing plane ride-slash-car rental pickup (they tried to give me a car with no license plate), both of my instruments made it here in one piece. Or, I suppose that has to be two pieces. I got into the hotel by 2 pm, took a nap until 4:45 pm (15 minutes ago), and have been thinking about doing Galamian-style scales, which, as I understand it, means combining specified bowings with specified rhythmic "feet": anapest, spondee, and so on. That sort of stuff is on the agenda for the retreat, but, tonight MUST be devoted to W12, W11 and W8 with bowings and umbrella--Lora is running out of patience and so am I. Mmm-hmm.
I'm off to the Alabama Folk Retreat tomorrow, and I've got both my instruments packed in cases and ready to go. Stay tuned for activities and practices at the Alabama Folk Retreat in Navuoo, Alabama.
Great session with Lora today; I could hardly stay on the right strings, and I'm bending the strings all over the place when I play, so Lora and I checked my bridge position--it wasn't really in the right place, so I fixed that, and I also sanded the E side down a little and notched the E a little deeper, and that seems to have had some good effect. Lora suggests I spend some time on "Here Comes the Bride" exercise for ringy threes and tonalizations, and I'll add that to my "To Do" list for the retreat, which I'll be at tomorrow and through the weekend. I also emailed the great Bob at Homewood Music to see if he's going to be in the shop on Monday, and if he is, I'll swing by on my way to returning to the airport.
I did laundry at 4 am and worked on W12 detache the whole time it washed and dried. I've got it about 2/3rds of the way through, and I'll get the last third in the Vault before my session with Lora today. Mmm.
- Set up computer in the vault,
- Practiced full W12* and W8 in detache,
- Did W11 full in detache,
- Bowed W12 in S2P2 and W11 in S2P2S2 as far as possible
- Ready for Lora at 1 pm.
