After over 2 years of undisturbed rest, The Endless Halloween has RETURNED!! The Endless Halloween is a weekly horror short story contest inspired by my personal favorite contest, "SCREAMS!!!"  While this contest is Halloween themed, your entry doesn't have to be. Some of us horror lovers just wish Halloween lasted a little longer than a single day. Prompts will be given each week on Monday with judging set to occur the following Sunday. See rules for more details. Now before you get too excited, keep in mind that this contest is just spawning from the nether and shaking off the cobwebs. Please be patient in case of any abrupt changes. THE ENDLESS HALLOWEEN RULES FOR ENTRY: These have been revamped  from before, so please make sure you review the changes.1. THE ENDLESS HALLOWEEN IS A HORROR CONTEST, AND ONLY ENTRIES THAT FIT CLOSELY WITHIN THIS GENRE WILL BE ACCEPTED. PLEASE NOTE WdC HAS MANY OTHER CONTESTS THAT MAY BE BETTER SUITED FOR YOUR WORK IF IT CANNOT REASONABLY BE CLASSIFIED AS HORROR. AS MENTIONED, THIS IS ALSO A SHORT-STORY CONTEST. WE LIKE DEMONS, BEASTS, AND ALL MANNER OF MONSTERS, BUT PLEASE DO NOT SUBMIT YOUR KAIJU HAIKUS HERE (although I bet I'd totally read that). 2. NO ENTRIES DEPICTING SEXUAL ABUSE/ASSAULT. 3. GORE AND VIOLENCE IN YOUR WORK IS ACCEPTABLE. ENTRIES CONTAINING ELEMENTS OF EROTICA ARE PERFECTLY ACCEPTABLE AS WELL. CONTENT OF EITHER NATURE MAY EVEN BE EXPECTED GIVEN THE PROMPT, BUT KEEP IN MIND THAT HERE, GOOD STORYTELLING WINS OVER DEPICTING TORTURE OR NEEDLESS VIOLENCE ANY DAY (OR WEEK). 4. 3,000 WORDS MAXIMUM AND 500 WORDS MINIMUM. SINCE YOU CAN MAKE CHANGES ON YOUR ENTRY UP UNTIL THE DEADLINE, PLEASE ALSO INCLUDE THE ADJUSTED WORD COUNT AT THE BOTTOM OF YOUR SHORT-STORY ITEM. 5. ALL ENTRIES CAN BE IN EITHER B-ITEM OR ITEM FORMAT. 6. MULTIPLE ENTRANTS WILL BE REQUIRED BEFORE A WINNER CAN BE DECLARED. OTHERWISE WE COULDN'T REALLY CALL IT A CONTEST ANYMORE, COULD WE? 7. ENTRIES MUST BE ORIGINAL TO THE CONTEST. A PREVIOUSLY CREATED ITEM THAT HAPPENS TO FIT THE CURRENT PROMPT(S) WILL NOT BE ELIGIBLE FOR CONSIDERATION. 8. LIMIT ONE ENTRY PER PERSON PER WEEK. 9. DEADLINE FOR SUBMISSION: 12 PM WdC TIME ON JANUARY 26TH. JUDGING MAY TAKE UP TO 24-48 HOURS FOLLOWING THE DEADLINE. WEEKLY WINNERS WILL BE AWARDED A HORROR MERIT BADGE + 10K GPs. AS A PROMOTIONAL INCENTIVE, ALL VALID ENTRIES WILL ALSO RECEIVE 10K GPs FOR THE 1/19 - 1/26 CONTEST.   NEW PROMPTS!! CONTEST DEADLINE, 1/25/2026 AT 12 PM WdC TIME. A loved one has lost their key to your home, but when they call out to be let in their voice doesn't sound quite the same. or A scary story involving a cat. Perhaps even two of them! Here at The Endless Halloween, we shudder at the thought of just what your depraved little minds may be capable of. The only question is . . . . can you really truly scare us?
