Perhaps ethical is too strong of a word and I apologise if it upset you and some of the others here. What this question is about is balance in reviews. When I get a review I don't want a bunch of fluff telling me the whole story is wonderful and perfect because my stories aren't wonderful and perfect. I want suggestions on how and where I can improve. On the other hand, I don't want somebody ripping it apart for the pure pleasure of it.
I guess the question should have been ~ "When reviewing do you try to prepare a well balanced, helpful review of both strengths and weaknesses of the story."
Every reviewer has their own style and that is how it should be. These monthly Discussions are not meant to tell you how to write a review. They are simply questions to discuss ~ a means to voice your opinions.
