I have a poem that I wrote several years back and want to enter it in a contest. How ever I cannot show how to get a word or line count? It does not show up in the edit box that I can find?

You can find the Word Count feature under the gear (*Gear*) located in the upper right corner of any item of yours that you wish to edit. Find Word Count about halfway down the list. Both the Word and Line counts can be found here.

But it will not automatically place the count within your item. You must manually add the word and line information. I personally add such information at the end of my work in the following manner:

{right}Word Count: xx words{/right}
{right}Line Count: xx lines{/right}

That will look like this:

Word Count: xx words

Line Count: xx lines

Yes, what you said about where it is located is true but not true in my document. Please look at my link:

"vvvvv vvvvv vvvvv " Open in new Window.

When I go into this particular document and go to the gear on the right side and left click on to it, there is no selection for word count. I created this document several years ago, would that have anything to do with it?

The item age should not have any impact. I checked an item I made in 2008 and clicked the gear. The word count option is still available.

What is it is created as something besides a a static item? I am just trying to figure it out because I cannot get it to show word count.

That’s a book item with no entries which is why you have no word count tool.

Recreate it correctly as a static item instead.
