Rules:

*LeafO* Please respect the forum rating in your plot description.

*LeafO* Your post title should be the genres appropriate for your idea. See the example at the bottom of the forum if you are unsure how to post.

*LeafO* Be reasonable with the length of your idea. Don't write the entire story/novel plot.

*LeafO* All plots left for adoption are available to be used by anyone in any way they see fit, including ways that my be offensive or unrecognizable to the original donor.

FAQ

*LeafO* Can I adopt a plot someone else has already adopted?
Absolutely! Everyone will write their story differently. Plus, most will remain on WdC, so there's no real worries about 2 people making a million dollars off the same idea. And if they do, good for them!

*LeafO* Can I adopt more than one plot?
Definitely! As writers, most of us have multiple works in progress, so it's natural to want to adopt more than one plot. Adopt as many as you want!

*LeafO* Can I change the idea/characters/genre?
Of course! Once a plot has been left here, it's free for the taking and can be used as you see fit. If you don't see a plot in a genre you normally write, try checking out other genres for a plot you can adapt to yours.

*LeafO* What if I adopt a plot and don't use it?
We all have unused ideas. It's the life of a writer. Because unlimited people can adopt unlimited ideas from here, it's fine to adopt ideas and not use them. Maybe you will in the future.

*LeafO* Do I need to credit the original person who came up with the idea or this forum if I write or publish a story with something from here?
Not at all. Everything here is freely given. No credit is needed or expected.

*LeafO* Do I need to comment on the post/plot I adopt?
Nope. That's strictly up to you. You can thank the original poster for their idea or remain anonymous. Pro Tip: If someone else has already commented and you want to comment to the person who originally posted, be sure to click Reply to their original post rather than just commenting in the empty box at the bottom. The empty box at the bottom only notifies the person directly above and that may not be the person you mean to notify.

*LeafO* How can I more quickly peek at the ideas without opening each forum post?
If you mouse over the post title, you'll be able to peek into the post comment and see the first few lines without opening the post.

*LeafO* Where did this idea originate?
The National Novel Writing Month forums used to have a section called the Adoption Society that had similar threads. When NaNoWriMo closed, we decided to open our own Adopt-a-Plot resource here.

*LeafO* Where else can I find ideas?
We discovered a similar forum after creating this one. Check out "Story Ideas.Open in new Window..

Example Post:
Post Title: Fiction, Drama, Family, Medical
Post Comment: A pre-med student required to do blood typing for class discovers their blood type can't come from the combination of their parents, so either their mom was cheating or they are adopted.
