for me? I am not a detailed description writer-- I don't care what my characters look like to you, the reader-- maybe they have brown hair, maybe they have purple hair, who cares?
While I will "paint a description" of my characters for the reader, I generally don't include those details in the story unless it leads to or makes a hint about something that has or will happened with that character. I find that things like "the silky-smooth touch of her dishwater-blonde tresses sliding against her hand as the brush made its way through" won't really matter to the reader unless something comes along that can later explain the situation or the importance of such a line. But for ME to KNOW that about my character, that is a key for my writing. Even if I never actually say something, it adds to the background I am building.
