A nano place to chat about NanoWrimo... |
Heya, Ducttape, I don't think you're anal ![]() ![]() Most of my writing has been either at home on my desktop, or at work on my laptop when I'm not having to do work duties. I've done this with several projects (including last year's NaNoWriMo). For transfer and backup, I have two different USB thumbdrives / flashdrives that I store my projects on (whenever I update one, I update the other, making sure I've got backup for the backup). I also keep a three-ring binder of the story-so-far (plus outline / plot notes) in what I jokingly call my "brain bag" (a shoulder bag I use for carrying notebooks and assorted papers, as well as song slips for when I go sing karaoke). I've almost always got the "brain bag" with me; I take it to karaoke, to do laundry, to the office, etc. So when I have down time like that (and believe me, the laundromat has LOTS of down time!), I'll pull out the story-so-far binder and edit what I've already got written, then add to it on notebook paper. Sometimes I'll grab the "brain bag" and go to the café at Barnes & Noble to get out of the house, away from the computers, and do some writing / editing / plot noting in a different setting (another form of mental recharge, if you will). I'll even pull the binder out at work if I'm not getting much done on the laptop, as away of refreshing my mind about the overall story. I used to write everything longhand and then transcribe it. Since I can use the laptop at work, I don't do that as much now. But I still write out sections when I'm away from the computers and transcribe them later. (After all, you never know when the muse will crowd out other thoughts!) As for the "flaws" you mentioned, don't throw them out entirely. But by the same token, I can see why you might want to re-work what you came up with last night (sounds like it was chaotic and not that conducive to writing). ![]() Good luck, keep writing and have fun!
