General About Questions What would you like us to call you? You can call me Sarah, my real name, or Miss Gorey, my pen name. Are you female or male? (Sometimes we get mixed up with text!) I'm female. How old are you? (Ballpark?) 23. Will be 24 in October. Do you have a spouse? Siblings? Children? Pets? I have a boyfriend I have been involved with now for nearly three years. Together we have two cats and a monitor lizard. How did you find Writing.Com? I was looking for writing communities on Google, because the last writing community I was a part of didn't give much feedback, and members almost never returned favors. It was mostly a lot of those, "oh, I liked that", or, "you wrote that very well" comments, and that was it. I wanted something a little more, and I found that here :) I am a serious writer and wanted to get more serious feedback. How did you find "I.N.K.E.D." ? I'm guessing you mean the forum I am now on, hehe. Sorry, I truly am a newbie. I received a comment in my notebook leading me here, along with a warm welcome message. Writing Questions Who are your favorite authors? I absolutely love the Marquis de Sade, Anne Rice, J.K Rowling, Clive Barker, V.C Andrews, Edgar A. Poe, and I am getting into some interesting non-fiction by Michelle Belanger. What type of writing is your passion? Short stories. I am best at them due to my short attention span. One of my friends who is in the medical field ventured I may have ADD, but who knows? I also love short stories, because they are great for people like me, and I like getting to the point rather than dragging it on with too much detail. What genres are you interested in writing? (Or reading?) I write mostly what I read. I have been told I can write an excellent romance story, erotica as well but I am trying to get away from that. Don't worry, I do it tastefully. I am trying to write more horror, as I am a HUGE horror movie fan. I am also good at writing things that are eerily strange; I am good at combining horror and romance together. Dark humor is another of my favorites. I am a goth at heart, what can I say? What do you hope most to gain by being an active member on this site? What I am really hoping to gain from this site is this: I want to improve on my writing. I want to be able to become the best I can be, and I want to eventually get something published and be read (and enjoyed) by many people. It's a dream of mine, and has been ever since as far back as I can remember. I was so young when I wanted to have my own published book, and I got a taste of it when I was a part of the Young Author's Conference in fourth grade. I also just want to share my work and to hopefully find those with like-minds. What's one thing about this site that you like so far? I love the fact that so many people have reached out to me within the first few days of my joining. I have gotten a few very constructive reviews and warm welcomes, and I can tell already that I am going to love it here. What are some things you feel other members may be able to help you with? I'm hoping to get some good advice along the way, and to get some help on improving my writing. I have a hard time getting anyone close to me to even want to read my stories, so I'm hoping I can get the feedback here that I lack offline. It makes me feel like they don't really care too much about what I do, but then again, I will have to show them one day when I finally publish something great :) If you could give one piece of writing advice, what would it be? Read! Read all the time, as it helps expand your vocabulary and it gets your brain in the writing mood. I find that after I read a good book, I am able to write descriptions of locations and situations better, and my wording goes much more smoothly. A good book of any sort is perfect for jogging the brain (I apologize if I sound like an English teacher. It is going to be my major in college, after all). What's the best piece of writing advice you've ever received? To keep at it, and never stop. To practice daily in all your writing activities, be it e-mail or a blog post. Incorporate proper grammar and writing into these activities with as much enthusiasm as you would put into a story you are working on, and you will always be ready when a great idea comes up. What is your favorite quote? By who? There are so many quotes I like I couldn't pick just one. I don't normally remember them when I need to, like now, ha. Goofy or 'Just For Fun' Questions What's your favorite color? I like earth tones and the shade black. If you had only 24 hours to live, what would you do? I haven't the slightest. Probably gather a compendium of all my writing and give it to my closest friend Mark and ask him to keep posting it for me after my death, and then go to all the places in my area I've been meaning to visit. All with friends and family, of course. If the whole world were listening, what would you say? (We're not the whole world, but we're listening!) Give me a break! Let me enjoy my life for once instead of having to fight for everything! If there was one thing you could do in your life you can't right now, for whatever reason, what would it be and why? I would get started on my college degree right away. Unfortunately I am having some financial struggles right now. If one song were to describe your life, what song would it be and who is it by? I'm not sure, but it would either be an angry metal song or something sad and haunting. If you could spend $10,000 dollars on anything you wanted, what would you do with it? There are so many things! The most responsible thing would be to pay off my debt so I can go back to college, and then save the rest to use while I'm in college. |
