Hi everyone. I seldom post in discussion forums, but this caught my eye. So, here we go... I agree that dreams can be informative. However, I can't say I think they connect us to a higher being or anything like that (just my opinion, I totally respect yours). Dreams tell us about ourselves. They tell us what we are thinking when our self-critic is turned off. Using dreams as a source for writing is an interesting idea. I can see how doing so would allow you to access your muse per se, without being interrupted by your own self-criticisms. In a way, its the difference between brainstorming and carefully editing while you write. In reading this thread, I'm amazed by how many of you seem to have frequent vivid dreams. I occasionally do, but very rarely am I able to tap into them as a source of inspiration. They just make too little sense. Also, I've always assumed dreams are a result of what I'm already thinking anyway, so I might have overlooked there value. Recently I've been writing more poetry and, as a result, have been having some weirdly lyrical dreams. I always thought the dreams were the effect though, rather than the cause. Frankly, I'm a little jealous of those of you who manage to use your dreams with so much success! :) |
