Well, I'll leave it to others to decide how well my characters are (or aren't) developed, as I don't recall ever setting down a single background beforehand. Then again, I usually only write short stories, whose character's back-stories can often be cut out of newspaper clippings and glued together in a couple paragraphs. :P Despite that, I like to think that they aren't entirely lacking depth or believability, as I'm usually very conscious that they're, after all, supposed to be people, not mannequins. When writing, I'm constantly switching between being the Narrator and being the Character, putting myself in their head and walking in their footsteps long enough to figure out how they would react to a given situation. -I- think I have a knack for this.
