I had thought of adding Cosby into the mix, but didn't do so for exactly the reason Steev mentioned. Innocent until proven guilty in a court of law. The problem is that Cosby has been found guilty in the court of public opinion, as so often happens. But here, there is no evidentiary proof, just innuendo, suggestion and opinion. So what happens if he is totally exonerated in court and all charges are thrown out? Problem is, if enough mud is thrown, some will stick, regardless of the rights and wrongs of the situation. As to the fifty women not reporting the crime, this is common enough. Who among them is prepared to stand up against the public persona of Bill Cosby and claim him as a sexual predator. When one is brave enough to do so, others will follow suit. The same happened with Rolf Harris, and the incidents had happened some forty years ago. It requires one woman of courage to open the floodgates. Similarly, with the "date" issue. What better way for someone to lure unsuspecting fans into his web (if, of course, that's what DID happen!). I don't think either of these issues invalidates the women's claims, but, again, they haven't been tested in the judicial system. |
