Take a Stand Against Bullying

Ken, I was a preacher's kid who moved more than the Military kid's I know. I have been told it isn't comparable by other military kids. I would agree but not in the way they would think I mean.

You did the right thing. The only thing that kept going through my head was my grandfather saying, "You have to stand for something, or you'll fall for anything." It was an old southern saying long before the song ever came out.

Standing up for what was right can leave scars, deep ones. But, I promise you this. That boy has never forgotten you. The down syndrome girl I helped turned out to be the child of someone my mother went to school with. I had to say no to being her friend because it was just too dangerous for her to be around me. But, my mom still sees them at least once a year. After every visit she calls to say they were asking about me and still appreciated the small act of kindness I showed their daughter. Knowing one person cared helped heal his wounds. It helps us all. Knowing that you could help and you did the right thing, I am sure helped yours as well as they did mine.

I'm not perfect and I will always have issues being in public alone or with anyone but my husband, really, but the scars would have been much worse if I had to live with the knowledge I didn't stand up for her, if I had gone that route.
