Well, I've never written a story where the wizards had to name the spells, but if you want yours to and you want it sound latin, you could use the Spanish, Italian, or French version of the word (since the often have a Latin root) if you know them and give a traditional Latin ending like -um or -ius.
But the approach you already tried, simply using Google translate into Latin is probably the easiest one. But you have to consider that words can have more than one meaning and all of those meanings are probably not the same in two different languages. So translating from English to another language and back again using a mechanism that distinguish which meaning you're going for will always give you weird results.
