I've been using Pages software on my MacBook Air. But it apparently there is no index generator and no cross-reference function except for links to bookmarks. Also, macros are pretty important to me, but Apple scripts are clunky and, as far as I can tell, can't be used easily within Pages.

Can anyone advise me of Mac software that has these functions? The App store has a number of cheap programs, which is nice, but they all talk about their ease of use and so on. I can learn to use anything; I want something powerful, even if I have to read a textbook to make it work.
