I review for the same reasons as Zen. Mainly to help people become better writers, including myself!
At first I didn't understand the point system so that was definitely not a motivator for me. The different colored cases didn't intimidate me because I only found out what they meant a couple months ago.
I was reluctant to start reviewing due to lack of experience, but once I received a few and checked out some reviewing advice I felt more comfortable with it.
If I'm not familiar with the genre, I just identify myself as a reader and tell the author how the piece made me feel and at what points I got hung up on the words. If I have suggestions I'll share them.
Also, my reviews always include encouragement, as do most of the reviews I receive. That's probably my biggest motivator for reviewing - to continue spreading encouragement.
