When I write, I am focused on the message, the act of storytelling. It is a challenge to put the work aside for a month or two until I can read it with the fresh eyes of a critic, a reviewer. I want to share my āfantasticā story with the world.
When I read (and review), I am focused on the story and the mechanics. I canāt help but think how I would have written āthat sentenceā in a different manner.
I try hard to enter into the voice of the storyteller. I try to grasp what the author wanted to communicate. I try not to let my voice interject itself into the review. In this way I can share with the author the parts that I enjoyed and sometimes comment on the things that didnāt work for me.
