I have enjoyed reading all these posts. I wish I received some of these in depth reviews. I remember when I first joined Wdc I had no idea what I was doing. After a few pointed remarks and suggestion to take a review class, I did and got better at giving them.
I know my limitations. I stick to what I know. I've branched out and reviewed things outside my comfort zone. Most poem's and the much written about Vampire genre I step away from. I find the latter to be over saturated and what writers feel about changing basic standards, most often offend me. I'm not a purist, but there are a basic requirement that denotes what a Vampire can or cannot do.
I do have a basic form/template. It serves me well as I'm not usually asked for more than I give. I think most people have seen my reviews and know what they're going to get from me. If they ask, I'll do my best to reward their good writing, suggest some improvements and point them to a goal of learning more by taking classes offered.
I agree with one of the posts by River a review that says you read the story is all well and good, but it doesn't constitute a "Review."
