I was wondering if I was using the right word/phrase for this decision I've been trying to make. Now that I'm reading the difference between the terms, I'm wondering where my head was because I do know what POV is and what tense is.

My story is what I guess would be a thriller but a mild one where my protagonist's past is catching up with her. Yes, I do think your advice is good and will follow through on it.
