A reviewing forum for those interested in improving their reviewing skills. |
What do you need to learn/research to improve your reviewing technique? A.Technical aspects of writing, such as literary devices, plot devices, genre descriptions? B. How to analyze dialogue or assess grammar? C. How will you go about developing your reviewing craft? My answer is all of the above. I feel extremely uneducated to give detailed reviews, but those are the helpful kind that people enjoy receiving. Unfortunately, I don't do a lot of reviews simply because it takes me so long to get through one. A. The term "literary devices" makes me nervous. I think I understand them but I have to look them up every time, so I don't review on them. There are hundreds and there's no way I can remember them all. B. Plot devices? What is this? What does it mean to move the story forward? If I don't know the answer to these questions, I have no business reviewing on them. I've learned a little about grammar but it infuriates me when I can't seem to break down a sentence and figure out if something's in the wrong place that might change the sentence for the better. C. Actually, doing reviews scares me because I don't want to say something that is wrong. I've done that and it truly bothers me. So lately, I've refrained from doing any in-depth reviews. Occasionally I will find some energy from somewhere and do an in-depth review. ** Images For Use By Upgraded+ Only ** |
