A reviewing forum for those interested in improving their reviewing skills. |
What do you need to learn/research to improve your reviewing technique? Coffee, time, and patience. A.Technical aspects of writing, such as literary devices, plot devices, genre descriptions? When I write a review I write it from the 'reader's' perspective. I'm not really reading as an editor would, looking for as many errors as I can. However, if I run across punctuation, spelling, or grammar issues I will mention them. I'm reading for entertainment and review as a tool of encouragement. (At least that's what I try to do.) B. How to analyze dialogue or assess grammar? When I'm reading dialogue I want to feel as though I am eavesdropping. I like dialogue to feel natural, realistic, and believable. As for grammar, if something doesn't sound right to me, I will mention it. C. How will you go about developing your reviewing craft? By reading and writing more reviews! Practice, practice, practice. It's also helpful to read reviews others have written. No two stories, articles, or poems are ever alike, therefore, every review will be different and fresh as well. ![]() Open until June 20th "Invalid Item" Now open! Check out the June prompt!
