This may seem simplistic, but I try not to overthink my reviewing technique.
Why is this so?
If I overthink and analyze it too much, I won't enjoy it. If I don't enjoy it, I won't do it as much, or I'll even try to avoid doing it. That has rarely happened here. I attribute my longevity with reviewing to enjoying the activity and the reading so much.
My focus, when I read, is on what I like and my reaction to it. I approach reading this way because my response is unique to me. My background includes a Bachelor of Arts degree in Literature so I feel confident in reading and expressing my opinion. Someone else may not agree with me, but that doesn't make my opinion less valid.
The last thing I ever want to do is take the joy out of writing for someone else. So, I read with a goal of encouraging more writing.
