Hi Kwills, Thank you for contacting me. It is so nice to find another non-magic world builder! I tried to take a commission a while back, but it didn't work out. (A map for the D&D game). People are more than welcome to use my maps for their settings though. As for my work, I do have some of the better ones published online. Links to follow. My world (in its current state) was developed over 10 years ago. I have a whole continent, spanning 4 time zones. I think it will take to the end of my days to get everything mapped! My current project is Vænesston. It is a provincial capital, with an importaint trans-continental trans-shipping route. Ships sail up the river from the "Atlantic" and several tows fiercely compete to provide a landbridge for the goods to the "Pacific" coast. It is already 24 months of progress, with a lot of work still to do. The reason for this delay: accuracy. I am accounting for every citizen in every city. Every citizen has their own place to stay and a purpose. Also, I am progressing through time, starting at the city's founding. Once I'm done, this will give me a very accurate sense of history. I'm currently stuck in the year 1930 for the last 8 months. The goal is to progress the map to the year 2020. The reason for getting stuck: I needed a bridge across the main river. (On the 1900 map published it is going to go on the extreme east of the map). There, I needed to know what is happening beyond the edge of the map. So, I commissioned a smaller scale (1:1M) map of the region. I realised that with all that farmland, the workers need to be housed. Once the calculations were done, I got a fright at the sheer number of people that live on the land. This caused the district to be split into two. The split meant that I would need to make two maps, one for each district. This means that I needed to do a pan on the map, which means another zoom out to see what is beyond the edge. This is what I'm currently busy with. I got stuck there naming every farming village (approx 5,000 in population) in a region of 1600km x 1120km. That sucked about 80% of my time. Now, that I have given up on naming every single village, the flow of work is much faster. Where a District (federation, province, district, county, municipality, suburb, property) used to take 4 to 6 weeks to complete, it now can take about 1.5 to 2 weekends. Here are the links. There is an unintentional mistake on the Vænesston map: one plot is land-locked (it has no access to the road. See if you can find it!) https://urbangeofiction.stadtkreation.de/vaenesston/ https://urbangeofiction.stadtkreation.de/nali/ https://urbangeofiction.stadtkreation.de/leonards-town/ https://urbangeofiction.stadtkreation.de/hells-gate/ Warm regards, Lányx. |
