I agree completely that reviewing makes you a better writer. It focuses you on the writing in a way that is different, and helps you articulate what aspects of a story or poem feel powerful and positive, and those that don't. When you see a writer use a technique or phrase well, you are motivated to strive for that. When you are able to help a writer make a phrase or technique stronger, you are reinforcing it for yourself for future writing.
