How about the advantages (and differences) between writing an outline for a novel versus being a pantser (someone who writes 'by the seat of their pants' and let's the story write itself). Personally, I'm currently a pantser, but I've also experienced the sorrow of not having an outline. I actually had to delete about 150 pages in one of my books once because I wrote myself into a corner!
