Heya, Norma Jean! Okay, do you mean to add brand new items or ones that are already in your portfolio?

For new items, there's a drop box on the item creation page where you can choose where the item will be housed. It's the second drop box under the big "Your writing goes here...." area and it'll say, "Folder / Location."

To move items round in your portfolio, including changing their folder location, this info page says it better than I can, and has more info you might find useful: "Folder" 

Remember "Writing.Com 101"  can be your best friend. There's a link to it at the top of all desktop WdC pages, but if you're on mobile, you're going to need the menu at the top left (the three horizontal lines). In that menu, scroll down to "Writing.com Tools" and the very top menu item when you click that is a link to Writing.com101.

But of course you know there's always somebody poking about ready to help if you need it.

Edited to add: I just realized there's no mention of the Drag/Drop Organizer in any of that, though that there's not one makes me kind of afraid to mention it. I'ma do it anyway. You can click on the gear icon to the right of the word "PORTFOLIO" just above the list of items in your portfolio. That'll give you a pop up window where you can drag and drop all your portfolio items into whatever folder and whatever order you like.
